Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that acknowledges the knowledge and skills acquired by a student through previous studies or work experience, even if formal qualifications have not been attained. For students applying for a General English course, RPL can help them gain credit for skills and learning that may reduce the amount of time needed to complete the program.

To apply for RPL, students must provide evidence of their prior learning, which could include:

  • Previous English Language Certifications – Results from other English proficiency tests or language courses.
  • Work Experience – Evidence of using English in a professional environment.
  • Self-Assessment – We may allow students to demonstrate their language abilities through an interview or written test.

RPL is often subject to SMC guidelines and is designed to ensure that students receive recognition for their prior knowledge while maintaining the standards of the course.
