This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. Educators in this capacity are tasked with creating and delivering curriculum that aligns with an approved learning framework, supporting children’s well-being and development using well-developed skills and knowledge. They ensure compliance across various service operations and utilize specialized knowledge by applying theoretical concepts to diverse scenarios. Educators may work independently or under remote supervision, following established policies and procedures, and may also oversee volunteers or supervise other educators.

Occupational titles may include:

  • Family Day Care or Service Coordinator

We have intakes for every month throughout the year for both Sydney and Melbourne Campus. 

Entry Requirements


Students must be over 18 years of age,

Students must have completed an overseas equivalent of Year 12 or higher qualification.

Students must have either an IELTS score of 5.5 total or above with no band lower than 5.0 or equivalent.

Entry requirements will be checked at enrollment in line with the RTO’s Student entry requirements, selection, enrolment and orientation policy.

At SMC, our International students are expected to meet minimum English Language requirements in line with the RTO’s Student entry requirements, selection, enrollment and orientation policy. Student are also required to complete Identify Learners Needs Form to complete the Language, Literacy and Numeracy analysis for each student before relevant corrective actions are implemented.

Course Structure and Mode of Delivery

There are total of 17 Units including 15 Core units and 2 Electives for CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and
Care plus a total of 15 units including 12 core and 3 Electives for CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and

For CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education following 17 units need to be completed. These include 15 core units and 2 elective units as per training package requirements:

For CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education following 15 units need to be completed. These include 12 core units and 3 elective units as per training package requirements:

A credit transfer is applied for 1 core units for CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

Assessments

Assessment Methods

Assessment is structured throughout the course. If students are unable to achieve competency, additional support is provided through mentoring and access to re-assessment as outlined in our policies and procedures. Assessment requires achievement across all tasks to demonstrate competence and includes:


Direct observation i.e., simulated off-the-job situation that reflects the workplace.

Product based methods i.e., reports, displays, work samples, role plays, and presentations.

Portfolio i.e., written documents, photographs, videos or logbooks.

Questioning i.e., written or oral questioning, conducting interviews and questionnaires.

Course Credit
